Set within 29 acres the Zoo is more of a Sanctuary than the typical Zoo setting. Showcasing 45 indigenous species, the Belize Zoo celebrates Belize’s amazing wildlife. More than just exhibits, these animals are ambassadors – creating a depth of appreciation, understanding, and respect for Belize’s delicate ecosystems. Founded in 1983 to care for abandoned animals, the Belize Zoo continues it tradition of providing a home to injured and orphaned wildlife in their natural habitats.
