Rainforest & Reef II

Welcome to Belize!  After disembarking your int’l flight, you will proceed through Immigration, then to collect your bags, and finally, go though Customs.  Once you are clear, you will exit the area through large doors.  On your immediate right is the street-side exit.  Your guide will be waiting to meet your for the ground and boat transfer to your resort!

On arrival at Lamanai, get settled in your spacious, comfortable thatched roof cabana.  After Dinner enjoy a Guided Night Jungle Hike.  Experience the jungle under the evening stars or by the light of the moon. Listen as the owls and bats come out to hunt and gather, and the troupes of Howler monkeys speak to each other across the canopy. Sounds come from everywhere as many species such as frogs and tarantulas, other mammals and species of birds thrive in the late hour of the evening.

Meet your guide in the morning for a Sunrise Canoe expedition. Strike out across the lagoon in exploration of Dawson’s Creek and its surrounding tributaries. Keep an eye out for manatees, otters, crocodiles and endemic parrots to name but a few. Sure to thrill the nature-loving side of all who participate in this adventure.

After Breakfast and a break, meet your guide for the Lamanai Temple tour just a few minutes walk away from the Lodge!  In the company of an expert guide explore the mysterious jungle-shrouded temples of this once powerful 3000 year old civilization where nature and ancient history coexist. The ruins of Lamanai encompass over 700 structures, a visitor’s center and museum.

If your preference is a night time excursion, rather than a morning excursion, then the River Spotlight Safari awaits! After dinner, climb aboard a comfortable custom built river safari boat and head out into the night. This exciting adventure gives you the opportunity to encounter anything from the Morelet’s crocodile to the elusive and endangered jaguar. All this plus close up views of some of Belize’s fascinating river birds as they roost on the water’s edge make this a not-to-miss adventure!

Enjoy breakfast, then get ready to head out on the next segment of your exciting vacation experience!  You will journey to Sleeping Giant Lodge.

Along the way, stop in at Nohoch Cheen Reserve for a Cave Tube & Zip Line Adventure.  Grab your gear and follow your guide along the jungle trail as he describes the traditional uses of the many plants and trees of Belize.  At the river splash right in or gently ease into your tube as you start your float through the caves with only your headlamp to lead the way! The Zip Line tour is a big hit as a combination on the cave tubing. Strapped into your harness you zoom between treetops from platform to platform!

Black Hole Drop:  This expedition starts off with a vigorous hike into the foothills of the Maya Mountains. The edge of the Actun Loch Tunich sink hole sits over 300 feet above the basin below, 200 feet above the rainforest canopy that grows out from the sink hole basin. Our fully trained caving guides then rig a system of rappelling ropes for your decent to the basin below.

River Cave Expedition:  An energetic combination of cave tubing and cave exploration to explore this incredible river cave system where ancient Maya Ceremonial centers, pottery, artifacts, altars, obsidian blood letting blades, jade and footprints are still seen. This is not a meandering tube float, but a true caving experience!

Your choice of tour awaits! Choose from ATM Maya Cave, River Cave Expedition or Black Hole Drop.

Grab your flip flops because we are going island style! But first, you will enjoy a final jungle adventure at ATM Cave.  A 45 minute jungle trek including river crossings, gets you to the impressive ATM caves. Start with a jungle hike and river crossings.  A short swim gets you into the cave entrance followed by wading and climbing to enter the main chamber. View human sacrificial remains and artifacts in their original context.

On arrival in Belize City, you will board your flight to San Pedro Ambergris Caye.  Your resort rep will be waiting to meet you to transfer you to your beachside resort.

Sit back, relax, and simply enjoy!

Choose the 9:00am morning or 2:00pm afternoon reef trip to the Reserve.  Tropical fish, and hard and soft corals abound!  After an interesting guided snorkel, have fun with the nurse sharks and southern stingrays before heading back.

Enjoy a daytime sail or sunset reef cruise onboard a catamaran.

Your vacation has ended but with memories to last!  Pack up and take your transfer to the municipal airstrip to board your flight to the int’l airport.
