Set within 29 acres the Zoo is more of a Sanctuary than the typical Zoo setting.  Showcasing 45 indigenous species, the Belize Zoo celebrates Belize’s amazing wildlife.  More than just exhibits, these animals are ambassadors – creating a depth of appreciation, understanding, and respect for Belize’s delicate ecosystems.  Founded in 1983 to care for abandoned animals, the Belize Zoo continues it tradition of providing a home to injured and orphaned wildlife in their natural habitats.

Altun Ha Mayan Ruins is next!  Follow the steps of the ancient Maya as you explore the temples and plaza.  Ascend the Temple of the Green Tomb as the mighty shamans once did. The Mayans thrived at this incredible trading post over a thousand years ago.  Truly inspiring!
