Xunantunich Maya Temple

Nestled along the Mopan River in western Belize, the site of Xunantunich looms over the river valley area.  Enjoy a climb (optional ) to the top of El Castillo, the central temple at the site. Follow the steps of the ancient Maya Shamen as you climb this structure which sits over 130feet high.  The eastern and western summits of El Castillo have large stucco friezes with carved elements that represent astronomical symbols, the sun god, moon and Venus. After thoroughly exploring the site, head over to a local restaurant for lunch. If time permits, we will also enjoy a stop at the San Ignacio Farmer’s Market.  @ USD$160pp
