Happy Trails

Green Acres is nestled in the valley of Belize's Blue Mountain Range. This part of the Maya Mountains is the back-drop for the extraordinary views along the Hummingbird Highway. We offer the best riding experience in Belize!
From the moment you mount your horse you'll begin a journey that will enthrall and delight. Riding beside the babbling waters of the river, across fields and orchards, and up the mountain side and into the rainforest, it's your horse and you. Beware! Some of our friends have claimed to experience emotional overload.
Experienced riders can enjoy lengthy trots and exciting canters. Novices and the less adventurous will feel confident with their gentle mounts and accomplished guides while enjoying the same trails and vistas at a relaxed pace.

Jungle and Ranch Trails (all levels)
One to three hour rides through the fields, across streams and into the mountainous jungle terrain.

Gibnut Trail (intermediate)
A more energetic two hour ride which takes you across the streams, up hills and through the jungle. Stop for break and refresh with fresh fruit before heading back.

Hidden Valley Day Ride (all levels)
A great way to enjoy both jungle and riverside terrain. Saddle up at the ranch and head up the mountain to Hidden Valley. Dismount and explore limestone formations where remnants of the great Maya civilization have been found. From there, take the trail through the valley to the river in time for a deli lunch and a refreshing swim in the cool jungle lined waters of the Sibun River. Remount your trusty steed and head up the ridge for the ride back.

Cocoa Valley Ride (all levels)
This rides starts off through the orchard, across the Sibun and into the Hershey Fields where the cocoa plantations once flourished. Ride through the orchards and cocoa fields of Hershey, then relax at the riverside (optional lunch) with a cool swim before heading back to the ranch. Be sure to bring a towel and your swimsuit!

Waterfall Experience - Day Ride or Overnight Camping (intermediate/physically active)
The ultimate camping adventure and our favorite ride! This is a high-level activity adventure. Giddy up for a three hour ride across easy trails. Traverse rivers, gentle hills, and orchards to camp one where you'll dismount and unsaddle. From there it's a one hour hike right through the jungle and up and down the mountain to camp two, where we'll set up for the night. A 10 minute walk from camp puts us at the very footfall of a breath-taking and amazing waterfall. We'll have worked up an appetite and be ready for a real cowboy dinner - feasting on strip steak, beans, tortillas, and potatoes. Wake up to the sounds of the jungle birds and the rushing rapids to enjoy a light breakfast (and last views of the waterfall) before heading back. This is an amazing journey with memories to last!

Barton Creek (intermediate)
Mount up and ride across rivers, jungle trails, and fragrant orange orchards and along the Chiquibul Road through the Mennonite Community of Barton Creek - be sure to have a smile and a wave for the horse-drawn buggies. Hidden within this small Community, are the remnants of an ancient Mayan civilization silently waiting to be explored in the cool, dark underground caverns of Barton Creek Cave, explored only by canoe. A swim in the cold underground river is truly an incredible experience, so be sure to bring your swimsuit!

Silver Creek (all levels)
Turn into the Silver Creek and head upstream. Our surefooted horses will take you through the water and along the stone lined creek with ease. The lush jungle lined creek is home to many beautiful sights and sounds. After leaving the creek we follow easy jungle shrouded trails and complete the ride through the orange orchard as we head back to the ranch. Bring along your swimsuit for refreshing dip at Bamboo Bank en route.

Home on the Range

Cattle Round Up (advanced)
Enjoy a ride around the farmland, then head out to the cattle pasture to round 'em up and herd them into the main field. Cows need a lot of attention and its important to inspect the herd, administer aid where needed and attend to regular medical checkups. You will be safely in the care of the wranglers and will work closely along with them. Offered only once per week and available only to experienced riders.

Proficiency Practice (advanced)
Work on your techniques in Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, Keyhole and Calf Roping. We make it safe and easy!

Every ride starts with matching the right rider with the right horse. Safety helmets are available, as well as a mounting block. For everyone's enjoyment we give basic tips on riding before hitting the trail. We take it slow and we have fun.
