...when you are looking for spacious and stylish accommodations on a Tropical Island and secluded white sandy beaches with swaying palm trees, Portofino Beach Resort is the perfect destination for you. The owners Jan and Sandra van Noord moved from Belgium to Belize in 2001 in order to build their dream resort.

Portofino Beach Resort is located 6 Miles North from the hustle and bustle of San Pedro Town, accessible mainly by boat. The property is 4,5 acres, including 330 feet of private beach. At the back of the property you will find the lagoon with mangroves, many different types of birds, and the occasional crocodile...

During the few years that we are open, we have built an excellent reputation with our guests, travel agents and wholesalers all over the world, due to our personal service and luxurious accommodations.

Our Restaurant offers a fine selection of European style cuisine, and we will be happy to make suggestions for your wedding dinner incorporating your personal preferences, and a wedding cake if you like. Fresh local seafood should definitely feature prominently. For your Toasts, you have a selection of Champagnes and Wines including some very fine French champagnes, or maybe you prefer a colorfully decorated Tropical Cocktail.

Accommodations

Choose from a variety of room types: Beach Cabanas (6), Junior Suites (2), Colonial Suites (2), Treetop Suites (2), VIP Suites (2), Honeymoon Suites (1) or the luxurious Beachfront Mansion which sleeps eight and is ideal for a family or a large group.

All the buildings are located right on the beach and have thatched roofs, giving a tropical and rustic feeling. We have Tropical landscaping, and for the resort we choose natural colors. All our rooms are decorated with local artwork.

All our rooms have balconies with chairs and hammock, wireless internet, television with CD/DVD player, air conditioning, small refrigerator and spacious designed bathrooms with showers and hairdryers. The Honeymoon Suite has its own whirlpool.

All the furniture is designed by the owners and is made from Tropical Hardwood and Bamboo. The Beach Cabanas have Queen Size beds and the Suites have King Size beds. All our Suites come with a Tropical Jungle Shower.

All the rooms are facing the startling colors of the Caribbean Sea and are provided daily with fresh flowers. You can go to our front desk for information, trips and tours, beach towels, free book and movie library, free snorkels and masks, free kayaks and canoes.

Activities

 

We have our own Dive Shop on property, located on our dock. Our dive master will offer free Try-Dives in our pool to get acquainted with diving. When you are interested you can do a PADI or SDI certification which takes about three or four days. We also offer junior programs for kids 10 to 14.

We like our guests to have a relaxed diving experience, so while diving there is no hurry. The diving groups are small and according to the skills so everyone can enjoy the incredible underwater life.

The Belize Barrier Reef is a dedicated UNESCO World Heritage Site and is located just off the shore (about 800 meters from our resort) and is the second largest (and largest living) coral reef in the world making this a diving and snorkeling paradise.

The Great Blue Hole is the World's largest known underwater sinkhole at 300 meters wide that plunges to 130 meters at the center of the Lighthouse Reef Atoll. It is made famous by marine explorer Jacques Cousteau and is the most famous dive site in Belize and a must for every hard core diver.

The most popular Snorkel sites are Hol Chan, a natural cut in the reef, Shark Ray Alley where you swim with Nurse Sharks and Sting Rays and Mexico Rocks, right in front of Portofino Resort.

Visibility averages 30, sometimes 45 meters on clear days, light winds from April to June. Waters are calm; temperature averages around 27 degrees Celsius.

Bar & Dining

Portofino Restaurant is one of the most popular restaurants on the Island. It is located on the second floor of our main building, offering spectacular views. From your table on our spacious balcony you can see our Uniquely Designed Freshwater Pool, Caribbean Sea and the Barrier Reef.

The "a-la-carte" menu has been created with European taste and Caribbean ingredients. Our Chef also makes daily changing dinner specials and a Vegetarian Menu is available for our guests.

While at the Green Parrot Beach Bar, enjoy tropical cocktails, a wide variety of imported wines, refreshing local or imported beers or healthy smoothies, while you sit back and relax.

Weddings

Everybody dreams of a wedding in our Tropical Paradise. We will be happy to make it an exotic dream event with memories to last a lifetime. Just let us know what you have in mind, and we will make it come true, whether it is an intimate barefoot beach ceremony for two or an elaborate event for a large group. When it comes to legalities, minister, music, flowers, photographer, hairdresser, massages, manicure, facials, to name a few, our experienced wedding planners are happy to tailor the perfect event, planned especially for you.
